Kirby's coming home!

Kyla doesn't know this, but we are planning to ship Kirby here from Ohio via Continental Airlines at the end of next week. As far as I can tell, Continental has the most humane animal transportation service of any of the airlines; they even have a Live Animal desk staffed 24 x 7 and web site. My sister in law recently mailed us some pictures of Kirby--she has grown so much in the past two months! We can't wait to get her home.

School is nearly over. Kyla's last day is Thursday. On Friday we will be making our third trip in two months to Busch Gardens with another mom from church and her kids.

Some movement on the job front and some decisions to make. I have always enjoyed learning and education, and I have the opportunity to teach middle school through a fast-track program. It would be hard work and not so great pay, but the hours, vacation, and benefits would be terrific. Now that I am a mom it is very appealing for me to have summers and long holidays away from work. On the other hand, I'm not sure in my heart that I like kids enough to deal with them all day long!

When I think back on the jobs I have most enjoyed, the common denominator has been teamwork...that is, working on teams with people to accomplish something greater than anything we could accomplish alone. The thing I least enjoyed about my least favorite job (a loan officer) was the whole "lone wolf" syndrome--loan officers need to network with realtors and clients to get loans, they need a support staff to close them, but they really are out there on their own.

According to friends of mine who have been there/done that, in many ways teachers are also out there alone...even when they are teaching a room full of students. There can be great satisfaction in teaching, but also great frustration.

I almost hate to put this down in my blog lest I jinx it, but I have a telephone interview tomorrow with the same company that interviewed me in March. The director who came close to hiring me back then was kind enough to pass my resume along to another director...who called me today to ask if I were still looking for a job. It's the same position but at a more senior level, for another work group. The position has not been posted on their web site, so maybe I'm getting a crack at something before the rest of the general public? I'm more excited about this than I am about the possibility of teaching, and perhaps that is my clue about this whole dilemma about what to do when I grow up.
